Armageddon is a 1998 science fiction disaster drama film directed by Michael Bay, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and released by Touchstone Pictures for Disney. It stars Bruce Willis, and an ensemble cast consisting of Ben Affleck, Billy Bob Thornton, Liv Tyler, Owen Wilson (Cars series), Will Patton, Peter Stormare, William Fichtner, Michael Clarke Duncan, Keith David, and Steve Buscemi (Monsters, Inc.).
Despite being poorly-reviewed, it was a worldwide box office success, becoming the highest-grossing movie of 1998 overseas, even though astronomers found a similar movie, Deep Impact, more true to science, though this earned more money at the box office.
When an asteroid threatens to collide with Earth, NASA honcho Dan Truman discovers the only way to prevent it is to drill into its surface and put a nuclear bomb. This leads him to renowned driller Harry Stamper, who agrees to lead the mission provided he can bring along his own hotshot crew. Among them is the overconfident A.J., who Harry claims isn't good enough for his daughter, until the mission proves otherwise.
