Squidward Tentacles is a major character in the animated TV series, SpongeBob SquarePants. He is a short-tempered and grumpy octopus who lives next door to SpongeBob, much to his dismay. He also works as the cashier of The Krusty Krab, a job he hates so much.
He lives in an Easter Egg Island head-shaped house and believes he is good at his talents when he is not. Despite having the word “squid” contained in his name, he is technically an octopus, as evidenced in many interviews and episodes.
Squidward is rude, stubborn, snobbish, grumpy, ill-tempered, egotistical, miserable, sarcastic, apathetic, pessimistic, hypocritical, and sometimes sadistic. He sees the world in such a negative way that he hardly ever greets anyone with a smile (well, I normally see the world in a positive mood). He hates his job at the Krusty Krab and you can usually see him sleeping or reading on the job instead of working. Although ill-tempered, he is one of the more intelligent and educated characters in the SpongeBob franchise. He behaves cynically, has an over ambitious sense of self, and finds others uncivilized idiots while denying his shortcomings. Squidward claims to be misunderstood and never recognized, finding society to be their fault for his problems.
