The Land Before Time is a 1988 animated drama adventure film centered around dinosaurs, and directed by Anastasia director, Don Bluth. It is the 3rd Don Bluth film and the second Don Bluth movie to be made by Universal Pictures and Steven Spielberg, as well as the very first film in the Land Before Time series. It features the voices of Gabriel Damon, Candace Hutson, Judy Barsi (posthumously), and Will Ryan, with narration provided by Pat Hingle.

Summary[]

A young Apatosaurus named Littlefoot, who has become an orphan after his mother got murdered by a ruthless carnivore. Littlefoot survives starvation and disruption to find the Great Valley, and befriends four more dinosaurs: a Triceratops named Cera (although the latter is reluctant), a Saurolophus named Ducky, a Pterosaur named Petrie, and a Stegosaurus named Spike, and together they all set out on their journey to the Great Valley.

  • This is the second of three Don Bluth movies to not be a musical, after The Secret of NIMH (1982) and before Titan A.E. (2000).
  • The only Don Bluth film in the 80s to not feature any characters voiced by Dom Deluise.
  • The first Don Bluth movie to have a non-speaking antagonist (in this case Sharptooth).
  • The only Land Before Time installment where characters don't sing, and also the only one that has a theatrical release worldwide.
